The place: Tobermory get-away.

We were celebrating 22 years of marriage. My wife is very forgiving when it comes to me bringing my camera on our weekend getaway. And also when it comes to the time and energy it takes to post and create these pages when I should be doing house chores. Thanks for checking me out.

Tobermory, at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, is not just a place to wait for the ferry; it is a great place to browse around the food and art shops. Walk a city block and you are at the Bruce’s Fathom Five National Park. The Bruce Trail begins its starting point downtown with a backdrop of Port Tobermory harbour. At the visitor centre, tons of hiking, sightseeing, a museum or even climbing to the top of a look-out tower are all on offer.

The town of Tobermory is full of atmosphere and charm and very picturesque. A plaque on a bench describes the town well. Don't forget to bring your camera! At the Fathom Five Visitor Centre, we took in 12-minute video clip with spectacular views from a helicopter, and then we toured the museum. If there was such a thing as reincarnation, I would want to be a bird to get the view of Fathom Five National Marine Park and Bruce Peninsula national parks. Years ago, we camped at Cypress Lake, and hiked to the grotto and the Halfway Rock along the Bruce trail. On a hot summer day, it is the place to be! The only description I can come up with is paradise on earth! The water is aqua green and most refreshing (that’s a nice way of saying it is freezing!).

We stayed two nights at the Grandview Dining and Accommodations: “The only thing we overlook is Georgian Bay.”

Along the shore is a walkway meandering into town along the edge of the harbour. A monument shows the beginning or end of the Bruce trail.

If you have a sweet tooth, visit the sweet shop. Of course, all the signs on Highway 6 have worked their magic. Work off your sweet treat by strolling and visiting gift shops, art galleries or sport equipment rental store (that’s if you want to work off even more of the calories).

We took a trip to Flower Pot Island: 9:30 a.m. departure and 3 p.m. arrival via The Blue Heron Company. It was an enjoyable experience. Check out more of my photos. I did take a refreshing dip and warmed up on the rock.

Some of my photos are posted in my international portfolio; also e-mail via my website if you are interested. Thanks.
